Development & Communications Director

Small, high-energy environmental nonprofit seeks Development & Communications Director to coordinate fundraising and outreach aspects of the organization.   • Reports To: Executive Director
  • Hours of Work: 9:00 – 5:00, Monday – Friday. Evenings and weekends may be required.
  • Responsibilities: Responsible for management of all development activities for 38 year-old Conservancy, with approximately 1000 members; 100+ major donors. Annual operating budget of approximately $300,000, with additional project-related requirements of $75,000 - $100,000+ annually.
  • Duties:
    • Develop and manage strategies designed to meet the organization’s financial goals, over both short (one year) and mid (five year) term.
    • Oversee annual giving, including developing target mailings to prospective donors and retention and movement of existing members.
    • Identify and cultivate new major donors, engaging the executive director, board members, and others as appropriate.
    • Organize and manage project-specific fundraising campaigns
    • Oversee relationships with major foundations and key donors.
    • Engage Board members and other key supporters in fundraising efforts.
    • Coordinate occasional special events, including donor appreciation activities, membership activities, community outreach opportunities, and educational forums.
    • Initiate planned giving efforts
    • Serve as staff to development committee, involving committee members as appropriate
    • Oversee organization communications efforts, including newsletters, website, email, and other areas as appropriate
    • Serve as staff to marketing committee, involving committee members as appropriate
    • Other tasks as may be assigned from time to time.
  • Job Skills:
    • Excellent written and oral communications skills
    • Ability to analyze and synthesize donor and organizational information for use in developing fundraising strategies
    • Friendly, outgoing personality with strong interpersonal skills
    • Excellent research skills
    • Ability to conceptualize, organize, implement and manage a variety of projects
    • Ability to work well in small team/office environment
    • Knowledge of Microsoft Office suite and ability to learn donor database software. Must support own clerical needs.
  • Other Requirements:
    • Bachelors degree or equivalent experience preferred
    • 3 years fundraising or related experience preferred
    • Understanding of non-profit organizations
    • Experience in working with boards, committees and/or volunteers
    • Ability to manage multiple priorities
    • Flexibility

    • Sense of humor


Volunteer Coordinator

  • Reports To: Development & Communications Director; works closely with other staff.
  • Hours of Work: 4 hours/week on average, year-round. Some evenings and weekends required. Flexible scheduling is offered. Why Volunteer With the Legacy Land Conservancy? A volunteer will learn a great deal about how small non-profit organizations work and grow and also gain an understanding of land preservation. A volunteer will have the satisfaction of knowing that their contribution is invaluable to protecting local natural areas and farms. A volunteer could use this position to build his or her resumé and prepare for future work in a similar non-profit setting.
  • Compensation: This is a volunteer position.
  • Responsibilities: To implement an effective, organized volunteer program for an established 38 year old land trust, and to engage Land Trust members and friends through direct service with the organization.
  • Duties:
    • Help design volunteer projects/assignments and deliver feedback
    • Recruit, train, organize, and supervise volunteers
    • Update volunteer information in the database to track their hours and interests
    • Develop and implement a recognition/ retention program for volunteers
    • Post volunteer listings on relevant boards, newspapers, and websites such as volunteermatch.org and craigslist, and track responses/referrals
    • Maintain communication with all volunteers
    • Other volunteer-related work as may be requested from time-to-time.

    • Ability to communicate effectively with both program staff and volunteers
    • Self-motivated
    • Strong planning and organizational skills
    • Comfort with speaking to groups and individuals by phone and in person
    • Knowledge of Microsoft Office suite
